We spent time overhauling our closets for summer—swapping out sweaters and jeans for sundresses and swimsuits—naturally we’ve also updated our skin care routine to ensure it’s adapted to the sunnier, warmer (hot!) weather. Rain or shine, season-agnostic, SPF should be an integral part of your skin care routine—helping to protect yourself against harmful rays and to prevent any premature aging (over-exposure to the sun is a main factor for aged-looking skin). We love formulas that feature SPF 50. Options that we find wear well on their own and layer under makeup well: all things Supergoop and EltaMD. As we reapply to our face and bodies throughout a day at the pool, we love Sun Bum's light weight formulas for face and body.
If you’re spending extra time outside, be sure to reapply your sunscreen every couple of hours. One more sunny tip: get extra protection from the sun by wearing a cute sun hat, hanging out under an umbrella and having light, breathable layers (think cotton button down).

Pending where you live, the summer air is usually less dry than the cold winter air—so swap your heavy moisturizer for something lighter that allows your skin to breathe. Other hydrating products we love using year-round include moisture-focused serums and oils—pick what’s best for your thirsty skin’s AM and PM routine needs.

Exfoliation should be part of your routine all year, but there are some summer-specific reasons you need to be certain it’s part of your routine. Hotter temps and humidity levels can leave your skin extra oily, plus if you’re living right, you’re applying sunscreen throughout the day on those pool, hike, or beach days. Sunscreen + summer sweat can wreak havoc on your pores.
Get that pore-fect summer skin you’ve been dreaming of and rid your face of sunscreen, sweat, and excess sebum via exfoliation. Exfoliating two to three times a week will help your pores stay clear of unwanted buildup resulting in dull-looking skin and breakouts.
